The Divorce Has to Happen

“Who could ever divorce us from the endless love of God’s anointed one? Absolutely no one! For nothing in the universe has the power to diminish his love towards us. Troubles, pressures, and problems are unable to come between us and heaven’s love. What about persecutions, deprivations (hunger or nakedness), dangers and death threats? No, for they are all impotent to hinder omnipotent love.” - Romans 8: 35 TPT

Wow!! What an amazing description of the love our savior has for us. It shows us how much he loves us and how committed he is to this relationship.

But what happens when we allow something to come between us fully receiving that love from him?

We have allowed so many things to keep us from putting our all into this relationship because we are still married to the things of our past. You might say we are separated but still waiting on the right time to serve those divorce papers. The fear of the unknown has kept us from crossing over and giving our past its walking papers.

“The thief cometh not but to kill, steal, and destroy: I have come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” - John 10:10

How can I have an abundant life when I continuously settle for the mediocre one?

He promised to give me an expected end of good and not evil, so why am I dragging my feet?

"Listen to me, Elsa. Your power will only grow. There is beauty in it... But also great danger. You must learn to control it. Fear will be your enemy." - Frozen

As I was watching the movie Frozen, that last line stood out to me. It said fear would be your enemy.

The fact that we are afraid to commit wholeheartedly is stalling the divorce from who I was to who I am in God. Fear has a grip on our hearts and because it has our hearts, we can’t fully take Christ's hand in marriage.

We are living a double life and we have come to the place where we must let it go. You and your past have irreconcilable differences and it will not change because you are afraid to move forward with God.

There are many things God wants to unlock inside of you, but you must be willing and obedient during the process.

“Yet even in the midst of all these things, we triumph over them all. For God has made us more than conquerors, and his demonstrated love is our glorious victory over everything.” - Romans 8:37

We are married to the greatest love that ever lived.

He has already given us the victory in our lives. He has already died for our sins and is ready to receive us as his own. We don’t have to continue to wait until we perfect our past. We need to surrender our past to him. We are made perfect in him and he will then take our past and make it work for our good.

When we stall the divorce, we halt the divine destiny over our lives. Everything is in limbo and tied up until an agreement is reached.

God wants you to trust him with your future.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end.” - Jeremiah 29:11

You can put all your trust into this relationship because he already has major plans for you. While Christ was going forward to secure our future, he was also acquiring us from our past.

How can we continue to say, "not right now" to a savior who is ready now to fulfill the promises in our lives?

What continues to hinder you from taking that step?

Walking away from what you are familiar with can be hard, but it is necessary.

When Christ presented his hand to me in 2011, I had no idea what would happen with my life. All I knew was that I needed to take a chance on him. I had allowed everyone to lead me and it would always take me back to the same place.

The comfort zone is to keep you comfortable in your displacement. You have no business being there, but because we feel as if we are in control, we stay. But God knew that staying would eventually kill everything he placed in me. So he pursued me until I turned around. And he wants to do the same thing for you.

Saying “I do” to Christ is saying yes to the future he promised us. Don’t allow your past to rob you of your future. You can do this through Christ who gives you strength.

“We look away from the natural realm and we focus our attention and expectation onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into the faith’s perfection. His example is this: Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his, he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation, and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God.” - Hebrews 12:2 TPT

“At last we have freedom, for Christ has set us free! We must always cherish this truth and firmly refuse to go back into the bondage of our past.” - Galatians 5:1

To quote Elsa later in the movie, "Let it go!"

When you look up the word “let” in the dictionary, it means to allow or not prevent or forbid. It also means authorize, sanction, grant, warrant, or empower.

“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” - Genesis 1:3

God the Creator was authorizing the beginning of creation. He was allowing his thoughts to come forth and to become reality. He permitted the light to come forth in the darkness. He commanded it to be and it became.

When you let your past go, you are allowing something new to come into existence.

“It” is defined as, “a subject of an impersonal verb that expresses a condition or action without reference to an agent.”

"It" can be attached to a person, place, or thing. It is not limited and can apply to many areas of your life. In order to let "it" go, you have to identify what IT is, and then what IT needs to become.

It can only go where you send it and if you send it away or out, it must comply with your words. When God speaks of his word, he says in Isaiah 55:11...

“So shall my word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which sent it.” - Isaiah 55:11

You see, once you let IT go, you are sending it to perform a duty or task on your behalf. Letting it go is also about letting it out so it can do what God ordained for it to do.

And last but not least the word “go”. Go means to move from one place to another or travel. To leave or depart. To move on a course, proceed. To move out of or away from a place expressed or implied. To take a certain course or follow a certain procedure. Simply put: action.

It is now time to proceed and go forth. When God says, "go," he is ready to move in the direction of his purpose for his will to come to pass. Letting it go is releasing the will of God into the Earth so that his glory can fill it.

Remaining in the same place to receive from God will no longer do. Your comfort zone is keeping you comfortable with being in control. You have to let it go. You must be willing to give yourself permission to move into what he has for you.

What am I saying to you?

Decide to walk away from your past for good. Christ is ready to show you all he has in store for you.

The time is now. The past is gone and you have become new.

Face forward and prosper.
