God the Giver

God was the first giver. The nature of God was as a giver in the beginning of time. He is a giver now, and His nature will always be as a giver. He created us with His same nature, but we as sinful man (or woman), stifle what is naturally built inside each one of us. Therefore, we miss out on the many blessings that come from giving.

“Then God said, ‘Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground--everything that has life.’ And that is what happened.” - Genesis 1:29-30 NLT

In Genesis, God gave a gift to Himself - the creation of man. He created man for His own pleasure.

From that point He gave man everything else. He made everything that man needed to take care of himself along with giving man all creatures to have dominion over.

God provided food for man. God provided food for every living thing – all creatures of the earth. He makes it convenient for them and balances all the variances. From God, man receives all the support and comforts for life. He even gives us things to enjoy that are not even necessary for life.

How can we be such takers from a God who loves us so much that we don't returning the favor by being givers to the others He created?

We were made to be givers. However, we are so wrapped up in our own lives that we sometimes don’t see the needs of those around us. We are simply too busy to give.

We make all kinds of excuses why we can’t give – not enough money, not enough time, etc. But God takes the time to give to us every single day. The fact that we woke up this morning is the gift of life God has given us for today – waking up tomorrow is never promised. We are only promised the gift for today.

The fact that we have food to eat today is a gift from God. The fact that we have a roof over our head today is a gift from God. The fact that any of your needs are met is a gift from God.

“ Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, ‘That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life--whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. Look at the ravens. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!’” - Luke 12:22-24 NLT

Before you go any further with your day today, pray that God will open your eyes and let you see others as He does. Ask Him to give you a sensitivity to recognize the needs of others and ask Him to show you how you can give out of your means.

Giving does not always cost money!
