Don't Give Up Your Birthright

Being able to write and create is a blessing that God has given to me. When I do not see the benefit or find joy in it anymore, I have allowed the enemy to steal from me.

"The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]." - John 10:10

I felt bound by the circumstances that I was facing and didn't see a word coming forth. I could only see defeat. I could see “not good enough or not filled enough to give a word.” I felt the fear of failing becoming stronger so I ran away from the blessing that God has given me.

The enemy was feeding me lies and I was eating them up. If the enemy can get us full of his lies, we will not be in a position to move forward. We will become complacent and sit down on what God has called us to do and who he has called us to be.

What you do or have been given is not for your benefit only, but for the glory of God. When we feel like we can't, that's when we know Christ can.

"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take this gift away from me. But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” - ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭

Even when we feel weak in our gifts or in life, Christ will show up strong for us, through us. We must rely on him and allow him to use us even when we feel we have fallen short. We must be determined to press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling which is in Christ Jesus.

While talking with a friend, Zack Weeks, he says this: “Things in motion stay in motion.” It hit me like a ton of bricks.

When we stay focused on God, we will continue to move in the things of God. It is when we take our eyes off Him that we become content in losing the ground He has given us. We give up our birthright to satisfy our flesh at the moment not knowing that it has consequences attached to it.

Do not be like Esau who was eager to give up his rightful place for a bowl of stew. He wanted immediate satisfaction and wasn't thinking about the future. He was tired and weary and could not see past his need or desire. He did not see the long term benefit or he thought it was too far off in the future to even believe it had a purpose.

Trust me. The enemy would not try to talk you out of your place or blessing if it didn’t have a purpose.

This week's blog post almost didn't happen. I told our blog coordinator that I felt off and I could not write. Nothing was coming to me and we should substitute my week with someone else's post. I was content with losing my place in the rotation because of how I felt. I didn't realize that I was allowing the enemy to steal my joy and my blessing, and eventually my birthright.
